On an overnight trip to Trieste, I booked a reservation at Osteria El Cassettin, which was highly rated on the internets. It’s a small restaurant, some eight tables, and the owner had to move some reservations around in order to accommodate me. He told me I could have a table from 19h to 20h30. I asked if it was enough time to do the tasting menu. He assured me it was.
The restaurant sits in town outside of the main tourist areas and I had to double check the directions on my walk. The street is unassuming, the restaurant tucked away between residential buildings. Inside, it is small but cozy.
The food was very good, coming out quickly, the bread steaming hot. I loved the way in which the pastas were cooked, in particular, and was very happy to be eating pasta in Italy. Had I another night in the city I would have searched out the best pasta place and gone to town.
